Project 1: Fettuccine Truss Bridge

 

A truss bridge is required to built out of fettuccine for this project. The objective is to develop student’s understanding of type of strength of construction materials and how the load distribute in a truss bridge.

 

Several case studies has been analyzed to identify each strengths of them. After analyze the precedent studies, the Pratt truss has been decided to serve as basic frame and to be further develop.

 

Different prototypes in a small scale have been built and test to evaluate their strengths. Different types of glues and different fettuccine have been tried out to ensure the optimum result.  Workmanship is very important to ensure the aesthetic quality and the stability of the bridge.

 

Project 2: Extension of a R.C. building
 
For this project, the group has to work on framing the structures of a R.C building. Proceed to individual stage, there will be extension design for RC Building. This object aims to introduce the basic process of building structures design process to students.
 
 During the design process, there are several things that needed to be take in consideration, such as arrangement of elements and their sizes. Upon completion of this project, the placement of columns and beams can be identified with suitable sizes to minimum construction cost. Besides that, load distribution diagrams,bending moment diagrams and shear forces diagrams are produced to aid in understanding the properties of the structural members.
